Converse with Hani and Biko
Converse with Hani and Biko is a composition by Lehlohonolo Peega details the liberation struggle of Black people in South Afrika during apartheid. It particularly focuses on the attempt at overthrowing the brutal regime.
The compositions is centred around the iconic Chris Hani the commander of Mkhonto we Sizwe and Bantu Biko the father of Blacvk Consciousness in South Afrika. Whilst the compositions uses the spoken word of these great leader an unsteady beat with throbbing heartbeat (represented by the sub bass) is heard representing the general everyday fears of Black lives during apartheid.
The relic attempt of the piano to bring structure and order in an existence of chaos is significant to sustaining life and hopes for a better tomorrow. The sorrowing screams of the program patch stand to tell tales of the suffering of Black lives in the squatter campus and bantu stands.
Hani rightly questions the transition period as being worth it for he knows their names and he knows their faces those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. A life sacrifice of 27years all for what?
This compositions stands to not settle, the irregular rhythm is testimony to the uneasy and unsettled life of the Blacks.
Converse with Hani and Biko is a composition that interrogates the methods and sacrifices mades for freedom and if they were worth it.
